What She Found in Belize City

Belize City wasn’t the main part of my trip, but it played an important role in how everything flowed.
It was more of a pass-through, a quick stop between where I was coming from and where I was going next. But even in that short time, it gave me a different perspective on Belize.
Less curated. Less slow. More real.
And depending on how you move through it, that can either feel overwhelming… or completely fine.
Arriving in Belize City
I arrived in Belize City around 11:45 AM, and from there, it was really about getting from point A to point B.
If you’re heading to San Pedro the same day, you’ll need to make your way to the ferry terminal or catch a short domestic flight.
Check ferry and transfer options with Belize Express Water Taxi and Tropic Air
The transition itself is pretty straightforward—but it does require a little coordination, especially if you’re traveling solo.
Where I Stayed in Belize City
Fort George Hotel & Spa
If you’re spending any time in Belize City, even if it’s just one night, having the right place to stay makes a difference.
Fort George felt like a solid, easy choice for that.
It’s one of those places where you can check in, settle down for a bit, and not feel like you need to figure everything out immediately.
What I liked:
Convenient location for moving between the airport and ferry
Comfortable, clean, and low-stress
A good place to reset before heading to your next stop
Since my time here was more about transitioning than exploring, having somewhere that felt simple and reliable mattered more than anything else.

How I Spent My Time
I got to Belize City after San Pedro, and even though the flight itself is short, the travel day ended up being longer than expected.
Between routing and timing, it wasn’t quite as quick as I thought it would be—but nothing overwhelming, just something to keep in mind when planning.
By the time I got to the hotel, it was around 2 PM, and I was more in “settle in” mode than anything else.
That first day looked like:
Checking in and getting comfortable
Eating at the Treehouse restaurant at the hotel
Keeping things low-effort after a longer travel day
The next morning was slow on purpose.
Room service (because I’m not rushing on vacation)
Taking my time getting ready
I don’t do early mornings on vacation unless absolutely necessary, and this wasn’t one of those times.
Later in the day, I went to the rum distillery, which was one of the few things I actually planned while in Belize City.
I also planned to spend some time at the pool, but the mosquitoes were… aggressive.
Like, sit-down-for-two-minutes-and-immediately-regret-it aggressive.
So that part didn’t quite happen the way I expected.
After that, it was back to the room to relax and reset before heading out the next day.
I left around checkout, no early alarms, no rushing.
And honestly, that pace worked perfectly for this part of the trip.
Getting Around Belize City
This isn’t a “walk everywhere and explore aimlessly” kind of city—at least not in the way San Pedro is.
You can arrange airport transportation through your hotel concierge or front desk, which is the easiest option. If you’re flying into Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE), you can also grab a taxi on arrival or pre-book a transfer in advance through platforms like Booking.com.
I personally used my hotel to book all my taxi rides.
It’s less about wandering and more about moving with intention.
Where to Eat (If You Have Time)
If you have a little time before heading out, there are a few local spots worth trying.
But I wouldn’t over-plan this part. I actually ate at The Treehouse located inside my hotel (Fort George Hotel & Spa.)
Belize City, for me, was more about getting through it smoothly rather than trying to turn it into a full itinerary

What Belize City Actually Felt Like
Belize City felt different from the rest of my trip.
It wasn’t soft, slow, or aesthetic in the way San Pedro was. It felt more local, more everyday, more lived-in.
And I think that’s important to understand going in.
You’re not there for the same experience, you’re there to pass through, reset, or transition
Tips for Belize City (Solo Perspective)
Plan your transportation ahead of time
Don’t expect the same pace as San Pedro
Keep your schedule simple
Stay aware of your surroundings
Move with intention, not urgency
Final Thoughts
Belize City wasn’t the highlight of my trip, but it wasn’t supposed to be.
It served its purpose.
And when you approach it that way, it makes the rest of your trip feel even better.
